Danny is a young Singer/Songwriter and Guitar player from Elgin who has been playing with local bands for nearly 10 years now.
He first picked up a Guitar not long after finishing High School, after witnessing a Red Hot Chili Pepper conecert and being amazed at how incredible a live show the band (and more notably ex-Chili Pepper guitar player John Frusciante) put on.
Buying his first Electric Guitar, he learned a handful of chords and songs before joining his first band. He has played guitar in various bands (playing both Original material and Covers) since first starting out, playing many different styles of music (from pop to punk, rock to heavy metal) learning from the other musicians around him and enjoying being part of a group. Bands over the years have included 'Exit', 'Side Effect', 'Next Question', 'Fat King George' and (more recently) stepping up to the Mic and being the singer and guitar player of 'Christie Row'.
Danny has been writing music for a while but never had the confidence in showing anyone what he had been working on, something that would change in the upcoming years. Leaving Elgin to go backpacking (a 3 and a half month trip all over the USA and Canada in 2009 and a 3 month trip around Europe in 2012) He had alot of time to fill on Bus and Train Journeys so began writing lyrics that one day he might use.
In the Autumn of 2013, Danny had to take time out from playing with the cover band he was in, due to illness and it was during this time that he needed something to keep himself busy, and so, started writing his own music, using the Lyrics from his Travels.
This would eventually become the foundations for his new Bands debut Album, "Headlights At Midnight" by Christie Row. Joined with his friends, 'Christie Row' created an album with an abundance of variety that showed each members influences throughout.
The Album was released in early 2015, and fronted by the opening track "Backdown", things were going well with the band; gaining local support and radio air-play, filming a music video (for the track 'Backdown') supporting and playing alongside local bands (including Neon Knights, Edgar Road and Silver Coast), they achieved quite alot for a such a small amount of time, with many highlights (including a headline slot at the Aberlour Games and playing at Elgin's Christmas Light Switch On last year).
After deciding to part ways with Christie Row after the Christmas Lights Gig, Danny began writing more music with the plan of making his solo debut.
Taking influence from one of his idols Jim Adkins (of Jimmy Eat World) and his series of EP's he released on his own accord, Danny began working towards his first six-song release which was released as "Out Of The Blue". The first single released "Stay With Me" was well received, with the music video gaining high praise. The single received airplay not only locally, but also in England, Germany, France and Australia.
"Out Of The Blue" was released in September 2016. Danny was out promoting his new CD everywhere and anywhere he could play, and in one instance, playing 3 gigs in one day! Live radio sessions and interviews followed, aswell as live performances (both on acoustic and with a full backing band) and even more so after the release of follow up Single, "Waiting".
The follow up single received more radio Airplay and in November, managed to reach the number 38 spot in the Scottish New Music Charts. The accompanying music video was released too, a retrospective look at Danny's musical adventure, including footage of first bands, first gigs and in the studio footage during the writing and recording process of Out Of The Blue.
In November 2016, Danny and his band managed to secure a slot at the annual Christmas Light Switch On in Elgin High Street, playing a variety of Material from Out Of The Blue, aswell as covers, including a poignant cover of Prince's "Purple Rain".
This performance prompted local press to do 2 feature stories on the Singer and Guitar Player. More gigs towards the end of 2016 and unexpectedly Danny found out that the closing track from Out Of The Blue, "Go, On" had reached number 28 in the Scottish New Music Chart - a major accomplishment. 2017 has seen Danny have his busiest year. This year seen him play all over Scotland, including making his Perth debut at the Green Room and live Radio sessions on Radio West Fife and Moray Firth Radio. The majority of 2017 has been spent writing and recording the follow up to "Out Of The Blue". Danny debuted a new song "The Best In Everything" in February and since has become a staple in his live setting.
The Track was brought to life with the Band, when they played it at the numerous festivals and gigs. Festival slots included a return slot at Speyfest, moving up onto the huge Whisky Stage, the first ever Wolfstock in Banff and also a slot on the Main Stage at NXNE Scotland. The band played various songs from "Out Of The Blue", new songs from the upcoming release "Anything But Silent" and blowing off the cobwebs off of a few Christie Row numbers. The recording of "Anything But Silent" was a very long learning process. Recorded at both Unity and Danny's own "Through The Sound" Studio, it took longer than expected to record. "The Best In Everything" was one of the first songs recorded as it had made many appearances before entering the Studio, and as such it was the first single to be released. Coinciding with Danny's 30th Birthday, the song was released as a Free Download alongisde the accompanying Music Video. The full backing band were invited to be part of the Video, and was filmed infront of Photography screens - taking influence from the Winery Dogs Video "Oblivian".
The song even made its way into the Scottish New Music Charts in September, reaching the exciting number 15 slot. Various new songs have made there way into the setlist, including the Title track from the New EP "Anything But Silent" and "Through The Sound".
In late 2017, Danny entered into the Soundwaves Music Competition, a nationwide Competition that is on the lookout for upcoming bands and artists. After getting through the first two rounds, he was invited to a live audition in Glasgow infront of the Judging Panel. Recieving very positive feedback from the judges, it was nearly a month until the results came through. Progressing through to the next round, where the top 22 from each City were selected was a huge accomplishment in itself, especially considered that there were a thousand applicants made. On the 30th of November he received a call to say he had made it through to the Final Round of the Competition, and was invited to play on the Main Stage at the O2 ABC in Glasgow. Although he never progressed further in the competition, Danny didnt mind - his goal on entering the competition was to play at the ABC and he achieved that.
2018 finally seen the release of 'Anything But Silent', a much harder and heavier album than its predocessor. Headed by the single "The Best In Everything" and followed up by the Title Track, the album was a huge gamble and learning curve. Danny wanted to approach the album as a DIY Project, recording as much as he could himself (Jack Nicolson handling Drum Duties for a second time), writing, self producing and engineered the album so that he could learn more about the Studio/Recording Process.
The Video for 'Anything But Silent' was released in June 2018 and garnered Radio Airplay all across the Globe. It was also round this time Danny announced the 'Anything But Silent' Tour, a huge 19 Date Tour over 6 months all across Scotland. This included Dates at Speyfest (Fochabers), The Drouthy Cobbler (Elgin), The Market Bar (Inverness), The Wig (Aberdeen), Belladrum (Beauly) and a slot at the O2 Academy (Glasgow). The culmination of the dates were filmed and released in the Video for "Through The Sound", the third and final Single to be released in November. Getting to play Belladrum had been on Danny's Bucketlist for years, since the early days of Christie Row so to finally get an opportunity to play there meant a lot. The slot at the O2 Academy in Glasgow was also an incredible opportunity, supporting the Smokin Buglar Band, as Danny had spent many years going to gigs at the Venue.
With the start of 2019, he is currently working on new Material for a series of Singles to be released over the course of the year. He recently recorded a Live Acoustic Session with Steve Bull (of Steve Bull Productions) at Glachbeg Croft, in which he filmed renditions of music he has worked on, including "Maybe This Is Our Day" and a brand new track called "Just Like Before".
There is new music planned to be released in 2019
